SD MMC MS-Pro card reader not working on DELL INSPIRON 15R 5520

Not sure how many of you've come across this, but for me this was unusual. Usually Ubuntu has great compatibility built out of the box. All the wifi, graphics etc are picked on boot. But when I inserted my SD card on its slot, it was not recognized & I'm running Ubuntu 12.04 LTS with 3.9.2 kernel. But it was simple google search & I found a simple solution for this problem:- Create the file "sdhci-pci.conf" that contains one single line "options sdhci debug_quirks=0x40" in a directory "/etc/modprobe.d" root@infra:/etc/modprobe.d# cat ./sdhci-pci.conf options sdhci debug_quirks=0x40 and then reload the modules: root@infra:/etc/modprobe.d# rmmod sdhci-pci root@infra:/etc/modprobe.d# rmmod sdhci root@infra:/etc/modprobe.d# modprobe sdhci-pci (or reboot) and plug-in the SD card now, it works... I'm Happy again... Hope it helps you too..

How to install Ubuntu Server 10.04 in Hyper-V

Last July, Microsoft announced the drivers for Linux source code is available in the Hyper-V virtualization environment. In practice, the 2.6.32 of the Linux kernel version now contains drivers for synthetic Hyper-V, virtual machine including the VMBus, storage, and network components. In detail, it's hv_vmbus, hv_storvsc, hv_blkvsc and hv_netvsc modules. These modules are described in t his article . Out configurations "officially supported", I tested the activation of these modules in new Ubuntu Server 10.04, provided recently with the 2.6.32 kernel. To do this I found this article which explains how to enable these modules, and which I inspire me thus far. Enabling modules Firstly it must ensure that the Hyper-V modules are loaded at startup. To do this, edit the file /etc/initramfs-tools/modules and add the following four lines: hv_vmbus hv_storvsc hv_blkvsc hv_netvsc Then, update the initramfs image: $ sudo update-initramfs...

AMD Radeon™ HD 7670M on Ubuntu 12.04

Update:   Recently I install kubuntu 13.10 and there is no problem with graphics. It just works  fine out of the box. I've seen many blog posts on how to make AMD HD7670M work on Ubuntu 12.04, specially when its in switchable graphics board like Dell Inspiron 15R 5520. I tried many things to make it work so that I could use the cinnamon desktop on ubuntu & other things too.. But to my surprise even the drivers from AMD site didn't work. Then I tried a combination of those blog posts I read & somehow I became successful in running the full graphics including compiz settings inside My Ubuntu Machine. Following are the steps I followed & it worked... 1. Create a backup of your xorg configuration file: sudo cp /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.BAK 2. Remove/purge current fglrx and fglrx-amdcccle : sudo apt-get remove --purge fglrx* 3. Install the driver: sudo apt-get install fglrx fglrx-amdcccle 4. Install additiona...
